This post had to happen…
I mean, nature’s very own 100% organic version of camera obscura happened right on my street!
For those of you who don’t know, camera obscura occurs when light makes its way through a teeny tiny hole and lands on a flat surface in front of it. The fact that whatever image being projected through that pinhole is in color and upside down is the phenomenon that occurs. On a side, but relevant, note; camera = (vaulted) chamber or room and obscura = darkened or dark. Basically, it needs a high contrast environment to work well.
It’s amazing if you ever get to see it in person… and if you ever get to see it display a solar eclipse through holes between leaves??? Well, that’s just magical!
I have to say, there are so many legends, superstitions and myths surrounding the eclipse but what I know for sure is that whatever happened outside my home on Monday August 21, 2017 was nothing short of epic! I played it safe and used official glasses I was given to view the event and when I stuck those glasses in from of my lens, this is what I got! Check out how well those glasses work and check out all the tiny crescents displaying the eclipse on my street! Better late than never, eh?
*totally don’t know why it looks like the frame of the glasses is actually the lens – whatever, it’s still so cool!
